the desire question podcast

Is it better to desire,

or to be desired?

Is it better to desire - or to be desired? ❤️‍🔥

That’s the question I posed to every guest in Season One as the host of Dirt Media’s literary podcast, The Desire Question.

In Season One, I spoke with remarkable authors like Stephanie Wambugu (Lonely Crowds), Erin Somers (The 10 Year Affair), and Ling Ling Huang (Immaculate Conception), whose work explores the many edges of desire: pleasure and pain, parasocial relationships, affairs, non-monogamy, impossible beauty standards, identity, parenthood, trauma, and so much more.

As a sex therapist, it’s been a dream to sit down with these writers and artists to explore their personal relationships to pleasure and desire and to learn how those experiences shape their work.

Season Two

Season One is live, and Season Two is on the way with incredible guests including Gina Gershon!!! (AlphaPussy), Alicia Kennedy (On Eating), Tanya Bush (Will This Make You Happy), and others.

universal themes of desire and yearning

The same themes that surface in my therapy sessions are brought to life in these books. Truly, what a gift. To have a vivid, safe space to explore our fears, desires, and hopes through storytelling.

What’s surprised me most, though, is the pattern that emerged in the authors’ answers to that central question. It’s made me rethink my own.

a therapy session in an episode

Each conversation becomes, in its own way, a kind of therapy session, one where we dig into the deeper forces that drive all of us.
